Vonnegut got it
@twbrandt clearly he didn't predict TikTok
@twbrandt I don’t understand why anyone would want to deal with all that bullshit, but if it made him happy, then good.
@twbrandt “Efficiency is the enemy of social life”
@twbrandt I wonder when the economy will realize .. probably too late
@twbrandt as a computer person, this is why i try to come up with an errand to run every day, even if it's more frivolous than kurt vonnegut's reason. it's just to get me out of the house and out in the world, to remind me that there's life out there outside the abstractions
@twbrandt

I love it when I go out and I see some great looking babies.

"these are fantastic babies" I say to their mothers.
@twizzay @twbrandt that's perfect Vonnegut phrasing right there.

@twbrandt don't even get me started. I wanted to go out to the hardware store to buy me a few bolts and nuts, and all the local ones told me that "we don't sell those anymore, go to the big box store at the end of the world or get them on line". And while I don't mind going out for a walk to buy stuff, I wasn't going to take the subway just for this.

So, I ordered the bolts, nuts and a few small stuff on line, some of which will come from China.

@twbrandt

I think the good computer people understand this extremely well. (Though there may be a current scarcity of good computer people.)

@twbrandt this the paradox: computers can keep us away from dancing, but they also have the capability of giving us more for it. As any tool, computers don't dictate how we behave (at least not yet), humans do.
