hey, fellow nerds... if I wanted to introduce a 7 yo boy to manga (he's a strong reader), any suggestions on what series may be good? He's started watching One Piece, so i was gonna go for that, but figured I'd ask in case there’s something good right now i don't know about! :) (he loves some of the usual suspects, Dog Cop, The Bad Guys, Investigators)

If you do have a pet or your boy is interested in pets, there's Chi's Sweet Home.

In a different direction, I think Cells at Work is a great series for kids, even if the biology terms will go over his head, I still need to google stuff from the show quite a lot too.

It's got white blood cells fighting against viruses/bacteria, and it's written like a typical shonen manga, but it's surprising educational and accurate 🤯 .

Hataraku Saibou

Inside the human body, there are around thirty-seven billion cells, who diligently carry out their duties every day. New to her job, clumsy but cheerful Sekkekkyuu AE3803 is excited to start delivering oxygen and collecting carbon dioxide despite her poor sense of direction. Meanwhile, Hakkekkyuu U-1146 is always ready to fight and kill any pathogen that he comes across. After running into each other multiple times, they quickly become good friends, regardless of their contrasting personalities. Entertaining and educational, Hataraku Saibou follows the two blood cells and their many comrades as they work together to keep the body healthy. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

@nothe Otouto No Otto is hella cute and might contain some lessons a kid growing up today could use to feel less/more Other. made a difference in my life, for sure..
@nothe but prolly stay a chapter ahead and be ready to answer questions.. i assume by 7 one has assumed some views from one's cultures and context
@nothe my (8 yr old) daughter really likes Wings of Fire and Amulet. Not sure if those are considered manga and they definitely have more mature themes to them.
@walkingsoma oooh, I'll keep that one in mind! I'm not sure if he's really caught the 'fantasy dragons are cool' bug _yet_ but... hopefully it's coming :D

@nothe maybe Yotsuba? I have read a volume and have been liking it so far.

Yotsuba&!

Hello! This is Koiwai Yotsuba, Yotsuba Koiwai...um, YOTSUBA! Yotsuba moved with Daddy to a new house from our old house waaaaaaay over there! And moving's fun 'cos people wave! (Ohhhh!!) And Yotsuba met these nice people next door and made friends to play with (one of 'em acted like one of those bad strangers Daddy told Yotsuba not to go with, but it was okay in the end). I hope we get to play a lot. And eat ice cream! And-and-and...oh yeah! You should come play with Yotsuba too! Notes: - Includes an interlude. - Won the Excellence Award for Manga at the Japan Media Arts Festival in 2006 and the Grand Prize of the 20th Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize in 2016. - Was nominated for the Manga Taishō award in 2008 and for the 12th and 20th Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize in 2008 and 2016. - Was nominated for the Eisner Award in the "Best Publication for Kids" category.
