@daringfireball Or they’ll bundle it into Apple One or maybe into AppleCare for that phone.

@daringfireball I think the @atpfm boys nailed it. It’ll either be free forever, or you’ll be charged retrospectively for using it, because no-one will complain about getting a $10 bill after the service saved you from a broken down car in the middle of nowhere or a broken leg while hiking out of signal range.

It’ll be a terrible look for Apple (and of course, a terrible outcome!) if someone was not able to use it because their subscription lapsed and they ended up dying.

@leoncowle @daringfireball @atpfm I think Marco nailed it when he said the most likely scenario was free SOS and paid general messaging, something roughly comparable to Garmin inReach. https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/837461
@daringfireball I’m so glad it’s extended, I haven’t had a reason to use it yet 🤞🏾🤞🏾
@daringfireball @gruber another one of the weird em-dash space occurrences #DFTypo
@daringfireball I'm confused, is this free for a total of two years or for three? When I bought my 14 Pro I was sold it with two years of Satellite SOS, but all the coverage suggests that this is a year additional to the first.
@daringfireball Yeah, I'm right, was sold with two years coverage.
@daringfireball so I think you just offered the solution, make it part of the insurance Apple offers and so make it inclusive of AppleCare?
