What console is the best for playing Minecraft in terms of keeping the world for the long term? - Lemmy.World

What console is the best if you want to have a very long-term survival world, I’m talking 5 years +. How can I future proof it for future updates? I also wanted to ask about the different editions of Minecraft, I believe I have java, but does bedrock edition offer any advantages over java edition? Also I have a survival world from 2021 on java edition PC and wanted to ask if I should start a new world or continue on from that world. Like are there any features I would be missing out on if I just continued with that world from 2021? I also have a world that I have on Xbox One and wanted to ask if there is a free way to move this world to PC? I heard you can do through realms, but I believe you need to pay for this feature. Anyone that can provide me with assistance with these questions would be a massive help.

Java tends to be the easiest because you can just stay on the old version of your world

Java tends to be the easiest

I never once expected those words to be said in that order, ever.

As far as Minecraft is concerned, it’s 100% easier on Java Edition. The cross platform Bedrock Edition is an absolute mess.

It’s pretty funny that some hacked together code in Java originally done by a single guy for a side project outperforms a ground-up rewrite done by one of the biggest software companies in the world.

Just goes to show that a complete refactor is a thing you should never do

Netscape 6.0 is finally going into its first public beta. There never was a version 5.0. The last major release, version 4.0, was released almost three years ago. Three years is an awfully long tim…

Ehhh… The Java edition has had more than one dude working on it for a long time. It’s not like MS bought it and tossed the code in a vault.

I play both pretty evenly, and while bedrock isn’t as bad as people say it is (anymore?), Java is still probably the answer.

That said, they’re both fuckin maddening to admin.
