This #BlackCrownedNightHeron gave me a closer view than last time, although still heavily occluded by willows. Roosting motionless while waiting for evening, this bird was clearly woolgathering, staring into the middle distance in a brown study. The red eye starkly contrasted with the grays, blacks, and browns; but also seemed meditatively unfocused, slowly blinking and opening again. So hard to get my digiscoped phone camera to focus on the bird instead of the branches!
