Bike lights... I loathe the old USB-A interface still used with many of them. All my devcices at home (and at work for that matter) are USB-C, but i have to keep a USB-A cable just so I can charge my CatEye rear light.

@daihard especially for tail-lights I prefer ones that use regular AAA batteries. You can use rechargeable batteries and they hold a charge much longer.
@dgodon That's a good point. I do still own a battery-powered rear light. Maybe I should revive it so I can stop worrying about the USB-A cables.

@daihard @dgodon I have only one thing to say- dynamo lights!

With dynamo lighting you get on your bike, it has lights, no fuss, no drama.

@geomannie @daihard I’ve got a Son dynamo on my commuter which is great but it’s really not a very affordable option. Lights are also not as bright
@dgodon @geomannie @daihard Shimano or Sturmey-Archer get the job done for a lot less.

@geomannie @dr2chase @daihard I've got a Son headlight and I've found it's not great for lighting the way as a rider especially when in very dark conditions. Do you think this sotel one would be better?
@dgodon @dr2chase @daihard Depends on what you think acceptable and what LUX your current light is. This one is listed at 70LUX (see Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fischer-Fahrrad-Fahrrad-Scheinwerfer-85355-dynamobetrieben/dp/B07XPBJZ21/) and if your SON headlight is less, then yes it should help. I just rode home in the unlight park & excellent illumination. A review here https://www.willcycle.com/2023/09/27/kit-review-fischer-70-lux-dynamo-headlight/

@geomannie @dr2chase @daihard Supposedly the SON Edelux II gets up to 100 lux, which should be plenty bright. I'm beginning to think there's something wrong with it.
@dr2chase @geomannie @daihard Yeah, there are cheaper ones, but it's still pretty expensive to get wheel built up and new dedicated lights. Considering what you can get for battery powered lights, I probably wouldn't recommend dynamo in most cases. Not to mention the added resistance. It's no doubt really nice not to have to ever worry about charging.
