OTD in 1963, Rider News editor Herb Wolfe rallied the staff of Rider College’s student newspaper—amid the tragedy of JFK’s assassination—to complete the issue for distribution the following Monday. The front page of that Nov. 25, 1963, issue of The Rider News is pictured below. The other image shows adviser Bill Lally discussing that issue with Herb and basically saying: “Great job putting the paper to bed, but you probably should have included something about the assassination.”
The late, great Herb Wolfe told me this story back when I was a writer for the alumni magazine in the early 2000s. Not sure if I’m remembering it with 100% clarity, but that was the gist of it.
