@CriticalCupcake this is probably a weak argument, but I don’t think there would be any evolutionary benefit to consciousness if it did not afford some additional capability in evaluating the available choices and weighing those against values, goals, desired outcomes, etc. Otherwise a simple unconscious biological rules engine would be a lot less problematic.
