I highly recommend signing them up to PJ library.
It is likely your shul can help with that, or your local Jewish federation.
Once you’re signed up, your kid gets a book a month, Jewishly themed, with diverse Jews.

At age 8.5 the program shifts to PJOur way- where your child would get to choose their own book.
