Happy #Blorboversary! I've only been here a few months but it's fun to have tried and continued having a "fandom" account! Makes the compartmentalization monkey in my brain happy.

Since we can spam--I mean, uh yell--I mean, uh, discuss about the people who have special pikshures in our wallet, I'll start this thread w/ Skuld from Oh My Goddess!/Ah My Goddess. My bomb baby. Reads shoujo manga.

Lots of moments but Fujishima perfectly distilled her near the end of the manga run here:

Because I started reading AMG when I was like 6 or 7, and the comic had been printed in English for about 2 or 3 years already, it meant (for me) that not only did I latch onto Skuld, being close in age to her, but this panel is still one of the only few panels that spoke to me. Because this was/is my situation, as someone who has 3 older sisters who are actually half-sisters. Both Skuld and I are the youngest in our respective siblingdom.

(Save for the whole having grown up together lol)

Many years later I found out that, at least OVA-wise, Hiroaki Gohda the director gave Skuld the age of 12. Manga never does but given that we see the version of puberty for Skuld in the manga, we can assume the same sorta age.

But she's often around my age for me and is one of two characters who have "grown up with me." So in my head, she's only a few years older than me and in our 30s. I've only found two other people who've done this, haha.

Is it weird? IDK.

The other one is Sasami from Tenchi Muyo. I can't showcase certain moments because uhhh I don't have a folder prepared for her the way I do Skuld LOL but I think episode 9 of the OVA is a great one. Other folks look upon it unfavorably now, due to one of the franchise creator deciding to be stupid about it in hindsight. But imo, it's still great character writing. A young girl struggling with her identity...

She also has her own magical girl spin-off. You should watch it

Sasami is 8, and I had learned about TM the same time as I did AMG, so she's also closer to me in the "grown up" version in my head (as explained here: https://blorbo.social/@okilies/111439614762189025 )

I often have a crossover ship of them where they get to be FRIENDS. And thinking of what they'd become as adults together is also fun. I drew that a while back for an old rp blog, as well as made custom edits. I'd like to make more eventually...."eventually" carrying a lot there...

In fairness, if you're of a certain generation or two, pairing both Tenchi Muyo and Oh My Goddess isn't weird. There's usually a lot of overlap, both in the shows/staff and fandom. Narrowing that, usually common pairs occur, for example with Ryoko and Urd.

Sasami and Skuld used to be popular as a result! See here this Xmas card by Geir Friedstad, a fan from 1993!

As of recent, Skuld's been paired with Washu at times, which is AWESOME. Mentor/mentoree, let's go.

Unlisted toot, for reasons--

Unfortunately, at least in my experience in the last gazillion years, you'll find a lot more lolicon to hard nsfw art if the artist in question pairs these two as kids. It's not shocking if you're a fan of either one unfortunately part deux: they used to be super popular in those circles. Nowadays you basically out yourself as an old person if you remember them in those circles.

I'd usually move on but since I have an (unhealthy?) kind of relationship with these two, it makes the whole thing be grosser to me than just my usual squicked out self. It's like seeing someone make porn of your siblings XD

I don't seek out lolicon but it starts getting troublesome when that's all there is for your crossover pair, ya know?

This is starting to get long lol, so I'll try to make this quicker: I've never really hated Ayeka, Sasami's older sister, but I definitely have appreciated her a lot more the older I get. I think there's a lot more to her if you deep dive. I certainly tried on an old rp blog lol

Also, her family canonically teaches d/s to the brides of the family. And martial arts to everyone in the family. Kewl.

Hear her catchy song about tying up Tenchi! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyLvAp70eLI

Sure, an act. Ayeka. We geddit.

(My kingdom for someone remastering the manga and having it available digitally, so we don't have to depend on these low rez ones...)

Other children to mention as "honorable mentions who shoulda gotten a post but since NAAN writes a lot--"

-Ishtar from Macross II
-Umi from Magic Knight Rayearth
-Amame and Kazuki, the Tenchi version, who are Ayeka and Sasami's grandparents
-Lia Nelson from Tangent Comics

And lots more, but to end it, I'll just leave a link to my big grumpy boi, Hans von Hammer:

And leave these two pages from War Idyll here. Make this end on a sobering note. Context here is that a Vietnam veteran, Mannoch, has visited Hans, a WWI veteran and has done a form of therapy, let's say, that can only be done between veterans...retelling war stories.
