I am a huge fan of Margaret Sullivan's work, and this piece about Musk is spot on -- except that she almost completely undermines her argument by continuing to pour her work into the deadbird site.

@dangillmor

But this is so common in the content of The Guardian -- and other supposedly progressive news outlets.

They warn of the dangers of of social media platforms controlled by magalomaniacal oligarchs, but still feed it with content. They talk of how Facebook influences elections and promotes hate in exchange for $$$, but when Threads came out, they couldn't promote it enough;

They lament how programmed obsolescence leads to e-waste that ends up in landfills and pollutes our water, but every time a new Apple or Samsung phone comes out, they cannot glowingly review it fast enough.They explain how big tech tries to control every aspect of our lives, but seem to be unable to live without their Macbooks and Microsoft Office suites.

Or these so-called experts are really clueless, or they are hypocrites.

@Bro666 @dangillmor iPhones aren’t planned obsolescence just because a new one comes out. The prior ones have the longest useful lifespan confirmed by having the highest resale value if you so choose, but most don’t and simply use the, for years to come. Can’t say the same about the knockoffs and clones, which go to a drawer.
