Warum betreiben Universitäten nicht schon längst eigene Mastodon-Instanzen?

Warum bekommen Studierende nicht mit der Immatrikulation auch einen Mastodon-Handle?

Warum hosten Universitäten Vorlesungsvideos nicht über PeerTube im Fediverse?

Es gibt einiges, das für ein stärkeres Engagement von Universitäten im Fediverse spricht.

Während viel über ein mögliches Engagement öffentlich-rechtlicher Medien im Fediverse diskutiert wird, sind die Potenziale von Fediverse-Instanzen von Hochschulen bislang kaum Thema. Dabei wäre es höchste Zeit, dass sich gerade Hochschulen ins Fediverse begeben. Ein Aufruf.

While there is a lot of discussion about new Twitter alternatives and the relevance of journalists and other critical groups of users, the potential of university-based Fediverse instances has hardly been addressed. It is high time for universities to get involved in the Fediverse. This is a call to action.

@radlschorsch @leonido To answer your question: American universities aren't here because potential donors and/or rich alumni aren't here. University administration just doesn't care about anything that isn't donor money these days, sadly, and most US universities have very strict rules precluding any social media representation without their explicit approval.
