Good morning. 🍁🍁🍁

16 November 2023

I've never known poverty, at least long term, the closest I've come was in my youth. But I've seen poverty close up. Where there is poverty, the people don't really have a grasp of their situation. They might not know they are poor because they are surrounded by people in the same situation and have never known any other way to live. Poverty reeks of desperation and people are willing to do things, you wouldn't think of doing to get by, like begging and stealing from friends and relatives. Pulling themselves up by their bootstraps isn't as easy as it sounds especially in rural areas where getting a job requires transportation and transportation requires wealth.

“Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity over humanity, nothing exceeds most of the criticisms made on the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well- warmed, and well-fed.” - Herman Melville

@Swede1952 "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps" is a JOKE that somehow became life advice. try it, bend over and start pulling yourself up by your shoes, see how far you get!!!!
@Swede1952 I remember when I was poor, and I watched my boss pull into the parking lot in his new Mercedes. He saw me admiring it, and he said something that changed my life, he said "You know, if you work really hard and can save the company some money, next year I'm gonna trade this baby in for a nicer one."

Well, some people are able to do it, but there has to be resources available.

@Swede1952 it literally cannot be done, that's why it's a joke. you cannot "pull yourself up by your own bootstraps" it's basic physics.

Oh… I gotcha … I a little slow today. 😂
