OK Doomer: Heat Index in Brazil Hits 137F (58.5C)

It's official, red alerts have gone out across the entire country of Brazil as the heat index hits 137F. The high temperature combined with humidity has made it impossible for most people to carry out their normal lives. There's already reports of power outages. People can't work. They can't run errands. They can barely sleep. It's not even summer there yet

@hannu_ikonen. The climate emergency is an emergency to millions this week. #climateemergency.

@hannu_ikonen where in Brazil? We're talking about one of the largest countries in the world, like if you said "it's snowing in the USA" the first question would be "where? Over how much area?".

I mean it's awful regardless but it's a damned sight worse if we're talking about the major cities like Rio.

It’s a worst case scenario.

From the BBC:

Red alerts have been issued for almost 3,000 towns and cities across Brazil.
Rio de Janeiro recorded 42.5C on Sunday and high humidity on Tuesday meant it felt like 58.5C
More than a hundred million people have been affected by the heat, which is expected to last until at least Friday.
Officials have attributed it to El Niño and climate change.
SĂŁo Paulo saw average temperatures of 37.3C on Tuesday afternoon.

Must be very humid too to get heat index up like that

@Scotter @Pxtl @hannu_ikonen

Extremely humid. I wouldn’t doubt wet bulb temperature will be in effect in many places leading to catastrophic death.

This was a problem with #Houston's hot summer. Unusual and unbearable humidity. #Dallas usually gets higher temperature, but drier. Not this year #HeatDome #globalwarming

@hannu_ikonen

99 Degrees (temperature, not heat index) is forecast for Rio De Janeiro Saturday, 93 today, 89 tomorrow. Sunday the temperature drops to 81 but that comes with thunderstorms.

@hannu_ikonen

We'll soon get to the point where climate change is taken seriously... when it finally starts taking money out of the pockets of politicians.

@hannu_ikonen Brazil boldly taking a step into the future to show us all what's coming...

@hannu_ikonen

Maybe Brazil will be the first nation to have a million death heat wave.
