Rep. Pete Sessions says he's going to strip GSA of funding for 18F because he's angry about Login.gov.

Login.gov is not part of 18F. Also, neither Login.gov nor 18F are funded by Congress—they're funded by the profits that GSA generates from its business portfolio. Nothing about this makes sense. https://www.nextgov.com/digital-government/2023/11/login-dot-gov-fraudulent-says-house-republican-gunning-defund-18f/392052/

@waldoj Never let the facts get in the way of a Republican congressman.
@waldoj "Republican threatens to strip funding despite having neither ability nor reasoning to support that threat" seems like a common trope if anything.
@waldoj This is amazing. Everything about it is just flawless.

@waldoj for those of you who have never been US government employees, login.gov is a pretty reasonably secure way to log in to multiple very useful gov websites.

I use it to log in the sites where I make VA appointments, check federal job postings, and access my GI bill funds for college, for example.

It's a useful service providing a very important function, so OF COURSE some right wing fucking lunatic is trying to fuck it up.

@waldoj having a single point of login has been a lot easier for federal grants and contracting, too!
@waldoj
Jeff Sessions has found another windmill to do battle with.
@waldoj also still pushing that bizarre narrative that login.gov caused COVID relief fraud
@waldoj I sure do wonder which third party vendor funds the Congressman.
