I don't have a particular goal in mind for this red leather but I saw it and it called to me

And now I'm tempted to take up leatherwork as a hobby

@saraislet it's really nice, I want to get back into leather working, it's just time consuming
@BobbyMcWho what's the downside of being time consuming if it isn't a primary source of income? I was thinking of it as a hobby, exchanging time and effort for happy/satisfied feelings
@saraislet just lack of time here! πŸ˜…
@saraislet can recommend, it's fun and there are so many easy useful things to make
@rixx what stands out to you as a thing to make out of leather? (…that you'd share in public)

@saraislet heh!

The classic starter is a card holder /mini wallet. I use mine (first thing I ever made) daily despite the questionable quality.

Leather is great for cases / storage for anything you like to carry - pens, cables, all kinds of small clutter looks and feels much better in a dedicated small case, and they are super easy to make. Also all tools: a metal ruler or a set of knitting needles are so much more satisfying in a form fitting sleeve.

@saraislet I also like making jackets for small notebooks.
@rixx These look super useful 🀩 what a great skill to have!
@rixx πŸ‘€ that rocket is a great touch

Attached: 1 image Oooh, I forgot to brag about a thing I made for #cccamp23: Wary of dehydration issues (Camp 2015 was *brutal*), I decided to always have a water bottle with me. But past festivals had taught me that carrying a bottle on your belt is annoying, and I wanted something to be practical *and* pretty, so lo and behold: My first everΒΉ leatherworking project. -- ΒΉ Absolutely stupid in terms of scale to start with, I only got away with it because I have experience sewing and woodworking, I think.

@saraislet heh, thanks. Way, way overkill for a first project, regrets were had (insert the "my homosexual audacity" meme here)

@saraislet @rixx

Agreed! And leather is such a durable material – the things you are making will last for years and years and years, and only look better with age
