The new GTK4 version of Foliate by John Factotum is finally out, and it's gorgeous ✨

This is one of the most polished, most useful third party apps out there, so it's really cool to see it updated to the latest version of the platform. It now also works on mobile, has a better library and navigation, and uses the standard Libadwaita preferences patterns, among other things.

@tbernard ... and its just sloooooow b/c it's build with javascript + gtk4 🀒. i wish i could use it. the ui is great. but i don't want to wait for each page turn (Librem 5,...)
#fbreader still just works. the core should be ported to some newer ui lib - maybe this one?
@scops Is it for you? It's really fast for me (Compared to my physical ebook-reader it's the speed of light )
@fabiscafe yeah, try to use it not on a x86 ;) something like a raspberry, pinephone or librem 5. it wastes much cpu power. on modern laptops or desktops this doesnt matter. it just like using elektron apps.

@scops i've had issues with foliates speed on my r5 5600h laptop. It is an ultrabook so it's running at low power but it still shouldn't be as slow as it is imo. (I'm also using sway so there shouldnt be a lot of background processes)

edit: it could just be a flatpak issue, several applications were really slow through flatpak but normal through rpm for me

@lilacTeeth different ui kit version? gtk4 vs gtk3 maybe?
@tbernard Beaut! Been eagerly awaiting GTK4 Foliate!
@tbernard oh this is super pretty

@tbernard Nice and cute UI. GTK4 is a banger !

But... please, keep FUCKING JS INTO WEB ! And stop making software with this shit !

@tbernard been waiting for this update for a while πŸ₯³
@tbernard I was waiting for this for SO LONG.
