@kotaro @jperlow Several years ago I went to a conference in Shanghai and I spent an afternoon at the zoo. Just next to the entrance there is an "endemic / local species" pavilion. There were a lot of lizards there. Large lizards. Sturdily-built ones. That's when I was enlightened as to why so many Asian myths and legends involve dragons.
