I'm feeling kind of down today. Tired, and not especially energetic.

I'm having a hard time getting things done, or feeling good about the things I have done.

So I'm going to take a moment longer than I normally would to celebrate the things that I've done today and the things that I'm planning in the near future.

This is all self indulgent hypetrain stuff, and I'm sharing it specifically to make myself feel better.

Let's go!

Alright, first and foremost I got my mesh radios in the mail today.

These are LoRa radios configured with the Meshtastic firmware. https://meshtastic.org/

Eventually, I'll probably make some serious modifications to the firmware, but for the moment I'm just testing range and core functionality.

Meshtastic

An open source, off-grid, decentralized mesh network built to run on affordable, low-power devices

I can bounce a message from a mesh node connected to my cellphone to a receiving radio at the coffee shop or makerspace from any point on the road between these two locations.

From within the coffee shop, I can connect to the coffee shop node and relay signals back to the makerspace (the coffeeshop node is on a higher floor than the coffeeshop proper, and has a stronger radio than the one I carry around. )

This has Implications, but I'm having a hard time articulating them.

I won't rehash my entire plan, but I will link to Community Memory: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community_Memory

and my MBBS rant from 2015/2016: https://ajroach42.com/a-modern-bbs/

Community Memory was the first BBS, and it lived in a record store, and could not be dialed in to.

We're going to replicate Community Memory with terminals at the coffee shop, the makerspace, the antique mall, and probably the library.

We're going to make it easy and desirable for people to connect to the same network themselves from their own devices. This will enable people to Dial In, but also gives them full access to the entire network.

We're also doing an ARG, but that's neither here nor there.

I spent the morning watching Power Rangers and Zyuranger in preparation for a show I'll be shooting about those things.

The shoot was postponed, so I did not get to do it today, but I did get to watch Power Rangers and Zyuranger, and that was fun.

I started setting up my "office" set, which is where we will shoot the Zyuranger show, as well as where I'll be shooting lots of other video productions that are coming over the next few weeks and months.

This shelf will makeup the backdrop of that set (taking heavy inspiration from @TechConnectify ) temporarily, until we can get something sturdier and more permanent.

There are some really wonderful pieces of art up on that shelf, from some people that I really admire (and some crap I made too!)

I wrote a very basic piece of software using the meshtastic python libraries that just logs messages as they are received, and periodically saves all messages received to a text file that's in a syncthing folder which then gets sync'd to another box on the LAN where it's read by another python script.

Eventually, these things will become our BBS.

I roast coffee professionally ( https://gamountaincoffee.com ) and we're working on a new blend that uses this absolutely Unique Indian bean.

I got to taste test it this morning, and it is really unlike any other coffee I've ever had.

That was nice.

We're making progress (slow and steady!) on #aurelisles and on track to get something usable out before the end of the year.
I think that not getting to shoot the podcast this morning really put a damper on my mood, I dunno, but there's a lot on the horizon that is exciting.

This is, more or less, what I sound like when I'm hungry.

Now I'm having food.
