Cheese Terminator (Windows 3.x, 1992) #NotDOS
"Cheese Terminator" was an official Microsoft product available for free to Polish Windows users who filled out a registration card and sent it to Microsoft's Eastern European office in Germany.
In 2015 one such user found an old registration card, and sent it in to Microsoft's office in Poland. To their & everyone else's surprise, a few months later they received a package from Microsoft containing a box with the game on a floppy disk, and a USB floppy drive.
Not only that, but Microsoft at the same time also released an update of the game called "Cheese Terminator: Reloaded" for Windows Phones. As Windows Phone is now dead, the developer of Reloaded made a WebGL version available this year:

@falken @dosnostalgic ios safri didn't even get the unity screen so it goes - exactly what I was hoping for on desktop!
@dosnostalgic lvl 8 is quite tricky already ^^'
@dosnostalgic
going nuts, M$ at it's best😄
@dosnostalgic damn, even got an USB floppy drive
@dosnostalgic I think it would be funny if the package included a letter that said, "Sorry for the wait."
@Ertain Wouldn't make too much sense, as they mailed in the card in 2015 and that's when Microsoft sent the package.
@dosnostalgic I'm referring to when the game was released, and how the offer was in 1992.
@Ertain Makes more sense for the sender to write that then.
@dosnostalgic A few months later? Did they really produce a new packaging and everything for this one registry? :D
@MetalSnake Indeed they did
@dosnostalgic @MetalSnake This smells like a publicity stunt to me — it's around when the Windows Phone version came out, and 2015 sounds right for the "customer gets unexpected [thing]" brand of PR "news" sorry (the 00's were "boffins find equation for perfect [thing]" and the 20’s are all "badly conducted survey finds [thing]"). My guess is that Microsoft staged the whole thing and sent out a press release for overworked journalists to copy-paste into their newspapers.
@andrewt @MetalSnake The programmer of the phone version who is no longer associated with Microsoft says no.
Also nobody wrote about this, which is why this post is spreading.

@dosnostalgic @MetalSnake oh, right, so it kind of was a publicity thing, but inspired by someone actually mailing in the voucher. Yes, that also makes sense (and is definitely cooler).
@dosnostalgic reminds me of the classic TX-0 program Mouse in the Maze: https://ultimatehistoryvideogames.jimdofree.com/mouse-in-the-maze/

@dosnostalgic I like the blatant Minesweeper LEDs.
@dosnostalgic
What an amazing story! Not enough to make me like Microsoft but enough to make me like Microsoft's Polish division.
@dosnostalgic That looks a lot like good old Sokoban...
