"Is this a job?" - Lemmy.zip

I know people like to shit on landlords, but owning and properly maintaining a home requires a ton of work and money. You should be spending 1% of your homes value on maintenance each year, which many people don’t/can’t budget for.

A good landlord takes care of that mess for you.

I know several people who sold their homes and moved into apartments because they were sick of the hassle of home ownership.

Don’t get me wrong, I have no plans of doing that myself, but the ever growing list of maintenance tasks is getting exhausting.

but owning and properly maintaining a home requires a ton of work and money.

It doesn’t. Not at all.

Dude, there’s a plumbing problem. You call a plumber. Dialing that number and talking for 10 minutes was not hard work.

Even if you physically are doing the fixing, which would be in the ‘hard work’ category, you are not there 9-5, 5 days a week for most of the year.

Landlords even pay people to manage their properties. Now they only have one expense a month, the managers pay. With auto-pay from banks, now they don’t have to think about that. Zero work at all. They can sit on their ass while their bank account goes up. Their tenants working 40 hour weeks in order for this person that is not doing anything to help them. The property manager takes care of all that. He doesn’t have to contribute at all.
