@Miriamm
As a gen-Xer I feel seen in an unseen way.
@Miriamm Wish I could give you a boost for every time I've said this!
@Miriamm The elderly are simply more prone to being captured by bourgeoisie propaganda for a number a of different reasons.
@Miriamm Notice how the plutocrats are happy to fund both sides of the culture wars and foment racial, religious, and generational conflicts. Anything to direct people’s attention, energy, and emotions away from class-based inequalities of wealth and power.
@Miriamm
Boomers are currently the fastest growing population of homeless by age group. The economic boon that the boomers experienced didn't make it to all of them, I know plenty of boomers that are broker than me (a millennial). When I think about that, I don't think "haha, suck it, boomer," I think about how they're going into a very vulnerable part of their life that our system has geared itself towards exploiting, and their kids don't even have the resources to help.
@Miriamm there is a wee little thing called the generational wealth gap though and it's infuriating enough

@souvlaki @Miriamm It is. And it’s a direct measure of how much the billionaire class has succeeded in eroding the political and economic power of each successive generation since the 1980s.

It’s still about class, but here it’s showing the accelerating effects over time.

@megmuttonhead @Miriamm
Agreed

I'm 100% behind the idea that any relationship of domination is entwined with class in one way or another.

@Miriamm Down with the bourgeoisie ☭
@Miriamm this is true but also let's not rule out the lead in the gas as being part of the problem
@Miriamm Over 50% of boomers are women and people of color. Generational antagonism is, as the bus sign says, those above you getting you to punch sideways.
@Miriamm And this is especially problematic because poorer Boomers have tended to die younger. The apparent conservatism of older people really represents a vast silencing of poor elders’ voices.
@Miriamm "Fascism begins the moment a ruling class, fearing that people will use the power of political democracy to gain economic democracy, begins to destroy political democracy in order to retain their power of exploitation and special privilege." --Tommy Douglas (The originator of Canada's single-payer healthcare system, and member of the Greatest generation).
@Miriamm The boomers had their own "ok boomer" manifesto over 50 years ago. It sounded just as silly then as it does now:
