I wish people understood that if you ask a runner “what’s chasing you”, you are not being clever or funny, and while the runner was likely not judging your insecurities before, they probably are now.

I AM running away from something. But you’re not my therapist and I don’t want to talk to you about it. Thanks for bringing that trauma up again though 🫤

@thefreehunter the “obvious joke” is rarely as witty as we’d want it to be, or at all😔 took me a while to figure this out too

@GuillaumeRossolini That’s fair, and my post wasn’t born in a vacuum. You’re right it’s likely just a joke but I just finished a substantial weight loss program where I had so many overweight people telling me how everything I’m doing is wrong. Then switched to running where now… so many non-runners telling me how everything I’m doing is wrong.

After a few years of hearing constant criticisms while succeeding at the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, it goes from merely being a morale killer to actively pissing me off.

But, for the reason you mentioned, I wouldn’t say this to someone’s face because they likely meant it as a lighthearted joke. Just blowing off some steam 🙂

@thefreehunter you may be right, perhaps to them it’s just a lighthearted joke

But they might not have considered that if they didn’t read the room first, and went straight for the joke, they are the ones being insensitive (sometimes)

So… 🤷‍♀️
