Court rules automakers can record and intercept owner text messages

A Seattle-based appellate judge ruled that the practice does not meet the threshold for an illegal privacy violation under state law, handing a big win to automakers Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen and General Motors.

Yeah, your car tracking what radio stations you listen to is a little creepy, and location is pretty creepy, but *secretly storing the contents of your text messages* is an entire other, way worse world.

And Tesla is the only automaker to not do this apparently?

Unfortunately I guess this means the Mozilla "Privacy Not Included" automaker review was fatally flawed, as it did not mention this. I don't see text messages anywhere in https://foundation.mozilla.org/en/privacynotincluded/honda/ for example.
