my household has a ~20Mbps dsl line. i’m the past two weeks i’ve gotten two door to door guys try to upsell me to some kind of fibre but i’m always like:

two people work from home and can run two zoom calls concurrently. who needs more internet? to do what? what does anyone do with a residential 100Mbps connection?

(industrial torrenting users need not reply, unless it’s to give me a login)

@phillmv I have a 1 Gbps connection (my only option) and the benefits are WAY higher quality streams and way faster offsite backups.
@zmanji it helps that our projector maxes out at 800x600 so i don’t even care about 1080p never mind 4k 😝
@phillmv agree on bandwidth, 1Gbps is silly. I have the lowest tier 100Mbps fibre, no desire for more. I find fibre is more reliable than DSL or cable for video calls though: I will always get those 100Mbps, with consistently low latency. But if you’re doing fine on DSL, then you’re doing fine. The only time I max out is exactly as you say - torrenting.
@phillmv oh also CRTC recently ruled that Bell has to give resellers access to its fibre to home network within 6 months, so prices should drop a bit this year
