But what if it wasn’t a genocide and we needlessly stopped the endless slaughter of innocent civilians?
A Textbook Case of Genocide

Israel has been explicit about what it’s carrying out in Gaza. Why isn’t the world listening?

Jewish Currents
@aral You mean the Hamas actions towards Jews and towards the population of Gaza, right?
@aral oh god, someone think of the semantics of the situation, QUICK!
@ErikUden @aral Don’t worry, I’ve got this! We’ll call it: “sparkling ethnic cleansing”

I saw a definition of genocide that said it requires "intent" otherwise it's just sparkling ethnic cleansing, and boy if ever there was an unnecessary distinction to exist, that is it.

@aral What is your plan to stop Hamas then?
@lazarus You’re that guy in the well, aren’t you. Knew I recognised you from somewhere.
U.S. Warns A Gaza Ceasefire Would Only Benefit Humanity

WASHINGTON—Explaining why the United States would not call on Israel to end its continuous airstrikes on Palestinian civilians, the White House warned Wednesday that a ceasefire in Gaza would only serve to benefit humanity. “We know there are voices across the world calling for a ceasefire, but what everyone needs to…

The Onion

@aral Today at 16:00 about a million Israelis in Tel Aviv and cities near it had rocket/s fired at them. I was one of them.

I am not arguing about genocide or not but I would like that something will be done so Hamas will stop trying to kill me.

@hananc @aral It's obviously not good, but things are being done about it, you have air defense that does greatly limit the damage caused by these attacks, and you have one of the best founded army in the world, what would be great would be something to be done for all this defense not to be necessary anymore, i.e, peace, which is a political process, that people who want the annihilation of "the other" won't give you, as their only solution is genocide.

@tshirtman @aral I didn't understand your point completely but here is something I wrote on the third day of the war, about what I had personally done for peace with Gaza.

The Lighthouse for the awareness of Gaza – October 2023 – וובסטר – הבלוג של חנן כהן

@hananc @aral thanks for what you did, and thanks for writing about it, i know many Israelis, like you want peace, and are doing all they can to build connections that are necessary for it to happen. If you know that, you know that the Israel operation that is happening now, even if it kills terrorists that inflicted the horrors 3 weeks ago to many Israelis, whatever their ideas where, will not solve the problem, because by inflicting so much misery to others, it will make peace harder to reach.
@hananc @aral my point is that the people in charge in your country, and in many countries supporting Israel "whatever the cost", are part of the problem, hamas wouldn't be what it is today if it weren't for netanyahu and people like him, needing a better enemy than the PA and fatah before it, because someone one can reasonably negociate with goes against the objective of supremacy over the whole land, in that sense, the hamas, is better for them.
It's impossible to destroy the hamas by bombing.
@hananc @aral lastly, i disagree with your point about talking of political solution is meaningless, i think it goes together, there was once the hope of a political solution, you know it, and it was violence from extremists which derailed it. Also, what you do, meeting people, creating a community, sending help, talking about it, is absolutely political, in a good way, it just won't be enough if people at the top can destroy these efforts by escalating violence at every turn.
@hananc @aral Well, the things that are currently being done don't seem to be stopping the rockets.
@timbray @aral There are less and less of them. On the first day of the war the sirens sounded six times in my city. The last time the sirens sounded here was 11 days ago.

@hananc @aral

I can think of a dozen extremely sarcastic replies but if there’s any hope for a path to sanity (I don’t think there is, but if…) it’s via people like you, so no point in nastiness.

@hananc I support an immediate ceasefire.
I hate it that you’re being shot at.
@aral I am almost ashamed to call myself left if I read shit like that!
