I've taken some time off to recenter myself, and now I'm officially re-entering the job market.

If you're in need of a technical editor, writer, or manager of either, or if you know someone who'd be interested, let's talk.

I've worked on tutorials for DigitalOcean, books for O'Reilly and Pragmatic, and other stuff besides.

Boosts for reach are appreciated.

@bmac @pathunstrom You may want to add a #GetFediHired hashtag for extra reach 🙂
@bmac Just wondering if as a tech writer you’re ever tasked to write in LaTeX. Do you often get to choose the tools & language?

@bojkotiMalbona Usually we have to go with whatever the company is already using. In recent years, Markdown has become pretty widely used. It's simple enough to learn, and pairs well with static site generators.

I've never had to use LaTeX myself, although I've worked with some writers who prefer it. I've always figured I could learn it if the need arises.

@bmac Don't know if this is what you had in mind, but the Federal Govt hires lots of technical writers/editors. Here's the current list for job announcements:

@bmac Mind editing your post to include a link to your CV? That may help - scrubbed on any addresses/phone numbers unless you want to share them, of course.

@bmac Not my posting but in my feed: LWN.net is hiring https://lwn.net/Articles/949461/

Best of luck with the search!

@bmac a +1 on Brian. He’s an exceptional editor
@bmac
DigitalOcean has *great* tutorials, thank you so much for those!

@bitcrush_io You're very welcome! The writing and editorial teams were all very proud of their work, and they should be.

Unfortunately, both teams got laid off back in February. So the bad news is there won't be any new tutorials, at least for some time. The good news is that the existing tutorials are still around, and they're all Creative Commons, so they'll be preserved well into the future.

@bmac Oof. That is a shame, I've been looking at a lot of tutorials lately and the bulk of them make me suspect they were written by ChatGPT with no proofreading. The DigitalOcean ones I could count on being complete and easy to follow.

Hope you find a great new fit soon!

@bmac Hi Brian, am keen to chat. DM me when you have a chance. I don't know if I have enough work for you (yet) for a full time role, but hopefully there's enough to bridge you to your next ideal role.
