Kira’s not afraid of fireworks the way the boys are, but she does get quite annoyed by them. She barks, which upsets the other dogs even when they’re sedated. So last night I gave her a bit of trazodone too.

The effects are still in play 18h later.

@clacksee Very grateful to have gotten away from the UK in that respect. Millie is absolutely terrified of a lot of such noises and fireworks in particular. Here she only has to put up with a couple of displays a year and they are just those one off events, no fireworks going off in the lead up or after. Thunderstorms more of an issue here but she is becoming less concerned with those now. Sileo Gel is very good to take the edge off.

I've tried Sileo gel on one of our dogs. It didn't have much effect – possibly because he drooled it all out.
@bobthomson70
Honestly, last night was just constant booms from 4 in the afternoon to midnight.
@clacksee :( it's horrible, the days and days before and after too and then you have folks letting them off at Xmas and New Year too :( Horrible for pets, and indeed plenty of humans with PTSD I imagine.
@clacksee Something else for us to be grateful for then, Millie isn't much of a drooler, maybe a dribble when she senses a nice bit of food coming. Sileo was essential for us to get her here to SW France from Glasgow as she gets very worked up by any form of transport and does not like it. The channel tunnel stage had her panting frantically even with the gel. It was a worth it in the end though, much less stressful for her here.

Yep, sounds very similar to Ozzy. He's absolutely petrified of travelling in any kind of wheeled vehicle. He needs both anti-nausea drugs and sedatives. That's what we tried the Sileo gel for. Weirdly, the only time he drools is when I give him medication. Well, that and stinging nettles.

He does love stinging nettles.

@clacksee It’s certainly tricky to coax Millie to receive the gel with food and then to rub her cheek so it is well distributed to her gum but very thankful it works for her since nothing else touched the sides at all.
@clacksee

Our bullies get CBD calming chews plus a Xanax, each, from my bottle.

We adopted a new dog, this summer, so don't yet know if he'll need similar assistance on firework holidays.

@ferricoxide
See, drugs are the answer!

In south-east London, every day is fireworks day from end of October to end of January. But the worst is Bonfire Night (5NOV) and the few days bracketing it.

@clacksee

Independence Day weekend is 2-3 days of explosions from sundown to at least midnight.

Some people also observe a few other holidays (Christmas seems to be next-biggest after July 4th weekend) with explosives. It's, uh, "not great".
