After 1047 days, my AirPods Max might be dead. 💀🎧
They fail to connect to devices 80% of the time, often requiring 2-3 factory resets before repairing. Battery drain is also an issue; they'll drop 80-90% overnight, even inside their case.
@BasicAppleGuy That feels unnecessarily disposable for such an expensive product ...
@gunnarsson had the same feeling with the original AirPods Pro, which I bought at launch. I'm not sure if I want to spend 300€ every 3 years for new headphones. I'm now using the ones from Sony for 29€ and actually happy, specially with the price. @BasicAppleGuy
@lontrachen @gunnarsson @BasicAppleGuy same thing as you, left AirPods died, Apple refused to change it because the issue happened 2 weeks after the recall program, I don’t really want to spend more than 100€ to buy a a single one AirPod or buy a new generation while have a case and an AirPod still working
@davidgrdm exactly the same with me, left AirPod. I don't think it's right for them not to change it since it's a known problem. I've heard of issues with humidity with the Pro Max and Apple refused to change them too. Not sure if I'm buying Apple headphones again. @gunnarsson @BasicAppleGuy
@BasicAppleGuy Seems like an unacceptably low lifespan for $600 headphones.
@BasicAppleGuy too bad they forgot the part of planned obsolescence where they release a replacement.
@BasicAppleGuy If I spent $550 for those, I’d want them to be the last headphone I buy for a decade. Less than three years is pretty sad. Thanks for letting us know. It keeps me from regretting that purchase.
@BasicAppleGuy and the next gen version is way far ahead of us

@BasicAppleGuy For £500+, I’d be pissed.

But they still do work wired, right?

@BasicAppleGuy yikes luxury headphones such as these should remain at near peak performance for longer than this! I guess it depends on how often you use them.
@BasicAppleGuy Seeing some of the same issues with mine. Draining like crazy when not in use. It’s partly why I was expecting an update to them by now.
@BasicAppleGuy Read an almost identical story here on Mastodon just a day or two ago. Got AppleCare+ for mine and will make sure to get them replaced (or at least the battery) before the extended warranty ends. Hope the Genius Bar can help you 🤞
@BasicAppleGuy So basically that’s like renting them for around 55 cents per day. Good to know.
@BasicAppleGuy is it possible to change the battery?
@BasicAppleGuy same for me. I don’t mind a depleted battery, but factory resetting 2-3 times any time I want to use them gets old. It makes me avoid them.
@Orlando they’re off to Apple for repair. Hope good things happen
@BasicAppleGuy Come to think of it, since no batteries live forever, any "pro" product should allow for easy replacement.
@BasicAppleGuy Sorry to hear. Mine are still fine, still love the sound. I use them somewhat lightly only though. Just at my desk most of the time.
@BasicAppleGuy Mine are about 400 days old, no degradation at all that I’ve experienced. I hope Apple can fix yours.
@provuejim had them off for repair today. We’ll see what happens.
@BasicAppleGuy mine will disconnect and require going into the case if I pause something for to long and will work again. But still the best headphones I have ever had. Would buy again.
@BasicAppleGuy Try to detach the earcups using a iClip and clean the contacts
@tsybulin did. Early results inconclusive. But 🤞
@BasicAppleGuy That’s a bummer. My old QC35s are still killing it on a regular basis. I’d love some over the ear AirPods, but the Maxes turn me off for so many reasons. This post isn’t helping. 😬
@BasicAppleGuy that’d be unacceptable to me from both an environmental and cost perspective.
@BasicAppleGuy I had the exact same problem. Out of warranty, no Apple Care. Repair cost was ~$300. Repair failed. Literally didn't solve the problem at all. They gave me a new par off the shelf, still sealed. Beats $550 i guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@BasicAppleGuy my AirPods Max exhibited very similar symptoms from almost day one. When Apple finally replaced them it solved the problem
