If we want to win (and we must), we need new blood at the top of the ticket. Joe Biden should not run again in 2024. The horrible polls should be a wake up call for James Carville & Anita Dunn & the long out of touch '90s Clinton-era strategists who run our party. It's more important to win down ticket than to give Biden the 2nd term over a candidate better able to inspire turnout. We do not need a replay of 2020. Another Democrat should run. Probably someone like Gretchen Whitmer.

Obviously I will vote for Biden again. My personal perspective is that every one of us is going to feel betrayed by the Biden Admin or some other party to the democratic coalition (e.g. I feel like pretty much every party to the coalition has more or less abandoned parents & the disability community to a miserable life wracked by COVID infections), but that is not a reason to abandon the coalition.

Defeating fascism means sticking it out no matter what: harm reduction. HR never feels “good.”

HOWEVER, some people’s willingness to suck it up like this, isn’t a sensible hook for your entire political strategy & it’s not an excuse to avoid making tough choices.

Will I vote for Biden? Absolutely because the GOP must lose, at all costs.

Is running Biden the best strategic choice vs GOP? No.

People get really emotionally attached to validating their past choices. It’s why ads work on you.

That isn’t a strategy. We need younger voters to defeat fascism, we’re not going to live forever.

I think some people have this idea that the next election is going to defeat fascism and then we’ll be done - so all we have to do is once again limp through the next election with a slim majority and then Trump and the fascist GOP will just go away.

No. We’ve let things go way too far. The GOP is a fascist party, they’ve hung their hat on it, & it will not change until after most of us are dead.

Our kids need to carry on the fight which means we include them now, we don’t sideline them.

We listen to them, we don’t belittle them. We hear their experience of the world, which is different from ours & more attuned to the realities of the present and the worries about the future; we try to attract them to the coalition, bring them into the fold, and train them for leadership, to carry on the fight against fascism after we are gone.

We don’t threaten them for speaking out from their convictions.

@chargrille

We need to make sure they are trained to take our places. I'm gen-x & it's been so frustrating watching our generation be sidelined by people in positions of power who refused to grow their replacements out of fear of being rendered obsolete. Now as each of them leave office one way or another, there is a mad scramble and whoever fills in has to start from scratch. Entire networks of power are lost each time.

@chargrille

I can't vote for Biden, not after the way he held back a third dose of the mRNA-1273 vaccine at the start of the Delta Wave. Nor the way he misrepresented Omicron as just another SARS-COV-2 variant. Nor can I conscience the way he keeps on giving health data to further right psychopath Peter Thiel. It's not that I think Republicans are going to do better, just that I'll have nothing to do with any administration that spreads defiling disease.

@chargrille i disagree. Biden has more than earned a 2nd run. He's displayed amazing leadership, gotten an amazing amount accomplished. Best thing people can do for him is stop talking about having other people run and start to vocally support him.
@chargrille it’s a bit late in the game for that at this point.
@chargrille We need peace in Ukraine, fairness for Palestinians, and the cessation of murderous extremists! We also need food and water equity, along with vastly more empathy for others! We need these things way more than pie in the sky pipe dreams about disempowering Joe Biden.
@chargrille What’s wrong with VP Harris?
@jlippertcohen
Nothing, but the Biden people saddled her with some no-win, unpopular portfolios (like immigration) and (not shockingly) she hasn’t managed to leverage those to increase her popularity; in the polls I’ve seen she mostly does even worse against GOP candidates than Biden.
@chargrille Putting too much faith in polls will lead to a repeat of 2016.
