Salinas airport restricts access, so you have to get there before the gate closes and stay at the event all day. We’ve run there several times this year, it’s a lot of fun, no noise level restrictions. Here’s a video of a run from last time I was there. #AutoX
@adrianco no noise restrictions?! Wish we had that in the UK, pretty much every track is 100db limit, and thruxton, my local track is 90db!
@andrewnez Yes, we have limits like that at tracks, but this is an unused taxiway at an airport and airports are noisy places so there’s no limit. We’ve had some super loud vintage open wheel race cars turn up at times.
@andrewnez I usually run our Tesla Model 3 Performance if there’s a low noise limit…
@adrianco how is that on track? Any issues with batteries overheating? Are there chargers at many tracks? I've seen a few teslas at uk track days but many tracks don't have fast chargers so the end up doing half days
@andrewnez The front brakes do need an upgrade for track runs. I usually do about 12 laps and come in early after 15min at Laguna Seca as it overheats and starts to cut power. That uses about 25%. I usually do two sessions then go for a charge. There’s a supercharger at Laguna Seca now, but I used to skip a session and go to a mall supercharger and have a nice lunch.
@andrewnez The ability to launch out of slow corners is astounding…. Easy passing opportunity.
