Problems that were overhyped:
- quicksand
- people offering me drugs
- the Bermuda Triangle

Problems that I was underprepared for:
- nightly existential dread
- remembering all 17,392 passwords required to do my job
- arguing with robots about whether or not there is an unexpected item in the bagging area

@LadyDragonfly quicksand... oh my, it were everywhere when i was a lad. Or we were told it was. Yes, me too!

@silentfp @LadyDragonfly

In Charleston we had a material called "pluff-mud".

Sometimes you could walk on it, sometimes you'd immediately sink in up to your knees or deeper, sometimes these conditions would be within a meter of one another.

It smelled awful, like the crap you scrape up from a clogged kitchen sink.

It would suck your shoes right off if you tried to pull them out.

Never been in quicksand, but that stuff was bad enough.
