USB-C head-to-head comparison

The reign of the Lightning cable is over, and the USB-C era has begun — leaving us wondering what sets one charger apart from another. We do a teardown of Apple's Thunderbolt 4 and its competitors.

@andrewducker I've seen this article doing the rounds, and it's missing the point entirely. They should compare the Apple TB4 cable to other makes of TB4 cable that are half the price. Of course a TB4 cable is going to be more complex (and expensive) than a basic USB cable!
@LumKitty *You* might be interested in that. I have no idea what different levels of USB cable consist of, and so was fascinated to see!

@andrewducker Ahh sorry, my point is this article seems to be trying to justify Apple's price tag by comparing it to a different and much simpler cable which is kinda misleading. TB and USB may use the same connector but they're very different things

It is interesting to see inside them though, I agree

@LumKitty Ah, gotcha. That makes sense, just some context I was missing!
I totally agree that if you're wanting to buy an equivalent to the TB4 then seeing the insides of that would be cool.

@andrewducker All good :3 no worries

FWIW I have a 2M caldigit TB4 cable that does the full 40GB and everything but only cost me 50 quid, hence why I'm a bit 🫤 at Apple charging £129 for the same thing

@andrewducker I wonder though whether Apple will shake its long standing reputation for shitty and easily breaking cables so soon. With that history, only a few people will risk buying their new pricey cables.
