I need a recommendation for a fun #cdrama #kdrama #jdrama #ThaiDrama to watch. I am stuck with too many drama-dramas and need something fun. Otherwise, I will end up watching "Falling Into Your Smile" for the eleventh time this year (probably not an exaggeration).

Things I like: characters and their relationships to each other! "Semantic Error" has fun and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Things I'm not interested in: procedurals, horror, gritty violence (but "Alice In Borderland" was good)

@jillithd oh no! Here comes trouble. It's a Taiwanese drama. I consider it the best drama I've enjoyed watching this year. It will make you cry! But it will also make your heart warm.
@jillithd ah forgot to add. It's quite comedic but with a very good balance with the drama. And it's just, very full of heart. It's a story about a boy who has some sorta supernatural ability with calligraphy, and manifestations of human's obsessions going to this boy to seek help.
@geraineon found it on iQIYI! Thank you!
@jillithd hope you enjoy!
@geraineon I'm barely 4 minutes into the first episode and have already LOLed. Thank you!

@jillithd @geraineon Oh gods, I love this show.

Also, was it the staircase? Or "why did you smash it?"

@glitchontwitch @geraineon yes, both. All of the "smash it"s made me laugh. ๐Ÿ˜‚

@jillithd I've been slowly watching "Tale of the Nine Tails." It was originally recommended to me by @ChefWritesAllot a while ago.

It's not a comedy, but it's pretty light and focuses on character relationships. It sometimes veers a bit too far into the romance genre, but I can live with that. Each episode is at least an hour, which is great, and I'm just generally having fun with it.

#kdrama

@bertramditore @jillithd @ChefWritesAllot I love it and did you know there's a sequel??? I need to watch that soon
@liztai @bertramditore @jillithd I have the sequel in my queue. I have been hooked on BL dramas lately. I just finished My Personal Weatherman. Loved that we learn about them at the same pace they discover more things about each other.

@jillithd

Guas Electronics is fun & light
Fight for my Way is also fun, but does have some drama-y moments.

@jillithd try Mystic Pop Up bar! It's on Netflix, I think https://wp.me/pf6C2d-1g
Mystic Pop Up Bar

Short and sweet, but packs a whole lot of punch, this Korean drama is about a mystical bar where people can find help to solve their โ€œgrudgesโ€ and the mysterious people who run it.

@liztai thank you!
@[email protected] @[email protected] I just finished (binged) Another Miss Oh because I wanted an uncomplicated drama, which it was. It's a romance with a few characters who are caricatures, at least initially. Character growth occurs, romance happens, and we learn a decent amount about sound engineering in the process.

@EllenInEdmonton @liztai

...and we learn a decent amount about sound engineering in the process.

I love that about kdramas. Learning about start-ups, weather forecasting, historical surgical techniques, the art of subtitling translation ... all with romance mixed in.

@[email protected] @[email protected] Absolutely! Romance was never my thing but I'm happy to watch them when they contain fascinating tidbits about various lines of work, with great acting, costumes, cinematography, soundtrack and interesting side characters and their stories.

@jillithd Did you get a chance to watch Wedding Plan?

It technically has a spoiler for Love In The Air, but only technically. Shocker of shocks, relationship configurations happen in a show about relationships.

Anyway, it's much lighter than LITA, in multiple ways. It also makes cute, if arguably "silly", aesthetic choices, like stylized text popping up about how someone who is a character's type has returned, along with a cloud heart from his chest.

But it works! I like them.

@glitchontwitch which platform? I will add it to my list.
@jillithd Oh yes, have you also tried Chief Kim? For Cdrmas, I hear good things about New Life Begins. And I can 100% recommend I am Nobody. It's definitely VERY DIFFERENT.
@jillithd Have you seen The Romance of Tiger and Rose (C-, it's on youtube)? Clever screwball comedy, though it does go dark briefly, ep 17
I didn't like the main couple in Fish Upon the Sky (Thai, GMMTV, also on youtube) but Neo's turn as Duean is gold.
A main character in A Boss and a Babe (GMMTV) is like a golden retriever, full of energy and play. Uses humour to distract everyone from their difficulties, including himself. Serious things but it doesn't dwell. Good on friends & relationship.
@emmaaum all new to me. Adding to my list. Thank you!

@jillithd oh good. i wasn't sure what you've seen or not :)
do you have an MDL watchlist? i'm Elisheva there.

forgot to include Behind Your Touch. i haven't seen it but some people find it a good laugh once they get through the initial premise.

@emmaaum
Yes, I'm on mdl: https://mydramalist.com/dramalist/jillithd

I really enjoyed Behind Your Touch! I am a fan of SUHO, plus it was really silly between all the murdery stuff. ๐Ÿ˜

jillithd's Drama List - MyDramaList

@jillithd I think we don't have a single completed show in common :) Though I do need to get around to Hidden Love. I just keep ending up back in Thailand :)

We need more silly these days.

@emmaaum ha! I saw you have "Semantic Error" on your to-watch list. I really love that one. Watch the series, not the movie (which is just the series put in one, but some scenes were shortened).

I haven't seen much Thai yet, so there is plenty of new stuff to see. ๐Ÿ˜

@jillithd gave Semantic Error a high priority :) I need to get around to it.

These are my favourite Thai series so far. I am new at this and slow.

Enigma is creepy supernatural so I thought to maybe try to organise a watch party the week before Halloween. Would you be interested?

My favourite Thai series (47 shows) - MyDramaList

I keep thinking to make a list of my favourite Thai series so I remember them better and so I can put Moonlight Chicken Not Me He's Coming to Me at the top. Perhaps a misguided endeavour but here goes :) GMMTV BLs were my start and well represented because they're often good for found family,โ€ฆ

@emmaaum @jillithd v interested, yes
@glitchontwitch. excellent :) i could use your help spreading the word. my reach is minimal.
i was going to write a query post to see if anyone was interested, but maybe i should just say Glitch and I are doing this :)

@emmaaum ooo, thank you!

Thank you for the invite, too! I have work visitors in town next week plus an Eric Nam concert, so I don't have time for a watch party. Next time!

@emmaaum
Semantic Error is such a light easy watch. Definitely worth watching.

@jillithd

@jillithd hmmm. Iโ€™m pretty sure youโ€™ve seen Love Sceney? And I think youโ€™re also watched You Are My Glory (and Iโ€™m certain youโ€™ve watched Love 02O) โ€ฆ what about Kingโ€™s Avatar (oops, all of these revolve around gaming!)? Triad Princess is silly fun, The Perfect Match is great (but more drama-y), Super Me is a movie thatโ€™s worth checking out. Accidentally In Love is good fun. I Hear You is Zhao Lu Si so is automatically good. Have you seen Romance of Tiger and the Rose - that is brilliant fun.

@rLok

  • I have not seen Love Sceney!
  • You Are My Glory is on my list already, but did not register as a potential fun watch.
  • I got stuck on King's Avatar for some reason and haven't finished it.
  • Triad Princess was super fun!
  • I have not seen Perfect Match or Super Me yet.
  • Accidentally In Love was pretty good.
  • I Hear You was good (Love Zhao Lusi!)
  • I have not seen Romance of Tiger and the Rose yet

Thanks for the recs!

@jillithd
Throwing in a suggestion for Light On Me

@jillithd Sh**ting stars, Mr Queen, Shopaholic Louis and Yumiโ€™s cells are some of my favorite fun ones. All on Viki.
@dikgelukkig thank you! I love Mr. Queen and Yumi's Cells, too. I'll add Shopaholic Louis to me list (Stars was already on it. ๐Ÿ˜)
