In a victory for democracy, RW extremists were defeated in Poland; voter turnout was the highest in its modern history: 73%, higher than in 1989 when Poles voted against communism. Sadly, #MAGA was victorious in Louisiana, the GOP now has a trifecta bc only 36% voted. Poland is critical to world peace with a pop. of 41M, LA has 3.7M, ~1% of US pop.

Poland gives support to centrist opposition after 8 years of nationalist rule

Partial results from 96% of voting districts in Poland’s general election have shown majority support for opposition parties. Those three parties are promising to repair the nation’s constitutional order and its relationship with allies including the European Union and Ukraine. Voters turned out in droves on Sunday to make their voices known after a bitter and emotional campaign. Officials said Monday that turnout was at nearly 74%. It was the highest in 34 years of democracy and surpassed the 63% who cast ballots in the historic 1989 vote that toppled communism. The result was a disappointment to the conservative ruling Law and Justice party which has governed for eight years on a nationalist and sometimes anti-European Union agenda. Final results are expected Tuesday.

Poland's election turnout was 73%, a record. And younger voters outnumbered older voters, despite the fact that the pres. candidates were 66 & 74: Voters under 29 turned out in larger numbers than those over 60. It seems young Poles finally understood that their future was at stake. Whatever happens next, this was a great democratic moment. The people spoke & said they wanted a different govt.
