I found this BBC radio/podcast series - The Gift - so interesting. Should be compulsory listening for anyone considering giving a DNA test as a present, or taking one themselves. You may end up with surprising results 🤔 #DNAtests https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0gd2dgb

What happens when an online ancestry test reveals more than you bargained for?

@simplicitarian I am really enjoying this one!
@KingSara It’s so good! Though I don’t think they mention at all the issues with giving a private company possession of your personal data - it’s all about the family implications really 🤔
@simplicitarian @KingSara i think i listened to that one last year. My grandfather's second family found out about us without dna, that was an interesting set of messages I had to deal with 👀. I'm tempted to do it to find my NZ rellies, but I've long had reservations about giving it to a private company.
@ygathgoch @simplicitarian yeah, my great-grandfather had a second family that he abandoned in Australia, but a cousin found that out when doing genealogy research. I guess that generation didn’t really divorce but just started over…
