Decided to do a clean install of iOS 17 on my iPhone 15
--
Battery felt like it was draining abnormally quickly & there were apps I hoarded but never used. I don't know if a clean install improves the battery, but a fresh start is a great way to purge unneeded apps off my phone
@BasicAppleGuy I’ve been debating on this too. Biggest hurdle is calling to verify Apple Pay
@Brian Who makes you call to verify apple pay? All of my cards use a 2fa email or text.
@richaesthetic Maybe it’s a credit union thing. I call them they have to verify each device.
@Brian damn they gotta change that
@richaesthetic Trust me. I agree. Every time it happens it’s like the reps first time learning that AP can be on more than one device.

I did a rest on my 14 Pro Max to see if we can improved the battery life some. Of course I had to reset my ApplePay on my watch and phone. My credit union does not have a 2FA or online verification forcing me to call. Debit card: 15 min call explaining doing two devices on one card. Credit card: they refuse to setup bc I cannot verify a purchase with in the last 30 days. Because I have not used it….

@Brian true. Thankfully I can do that online
@BasicAppleGuy Was it draining because it was downloading all of your iCloud data at once? It should save a lot of battery not having to download all those apps from the App Store from the backup!
@tomk no. Just daily usage felt like it was dropping a lot
@BasicAppleGuy :( I hate that it’s gotten so bad
@BasicAppleGuy Been doing it every year! Let's the new phone feel even newer. And it's a great opportunity to get to know new widgets and stuff.
@BasicAppleGuy is this iOS 17 clean Home Screen?
@myrmidon I moved the stock icons around, otherwise yes
@BasicAppleGuy thank you. do you know if someone keeps a record of "virgin" layouts? That’s my stupid way of paying a tribute to SPJ.
@BasicAppleGuy it definitely did for me and my iPhone 12. I get a full day out of my phone again.
@BasicAppleGuy I did this too this year. Surprising how many things are stored in iCloud beyond just the normal stuff.
@BasicAppleGuy I find as annoying starting over is; it’s one less variable to deduce any abnormalities. Plus I found some apps that were supposed to get the dynamic island feature didn’t show up until I started fresh.
@BasicAppleGuy Please, keep us updated on this. I have same feeling about my phone and if you succeed then I will also clean install mine.
@sardo will do
@BasicAppleGuy How is the experience?
@sardo Early days, but much better. Like 20-30% better battery
@BasicAppleGuy did that last year but couldn’t be bothered this year. Guess once every couple of years is fine for me lol.
@BasicAppleGuy i do this at least once a year even if i dont switch to a new model. Apple improved cache cleaning quite a lot over time, but i think a fresh start always helps.
@pancake psychologically it feels nicer.
@BasicAppleGuy
How often did you regularly reboot your phone?
Theoretically this should solve most problems too.
