AJ@jasongorman I’d probably buy more if authors published short ‘papers’ with tutorial guides. I wonder how much of this is publishers wanting to drive works up to a certain price level/size.

I cannot speak to it's accuracy, but it was a standing joke at my university (in Denmark) that American textbooks were ridiculously verbose, apparently because they were paid by word count.
I don't know if that's the actual, but everyone knew that the text body of the American ones, you could just read superficially as the same point would be made *many* times.
