Started playing #GreatMahouDaisakusen for the La Calice Cup 7 tournament.

This was one of the #Shmups that I was really looking forward to, even before the voting began. I'm glad it managed to win the vote and get into the tourney.

Learned a route for stage 1 to complete the food and shoe sets, and to get a couple of secret items from the boss. Between dodging bullets and watching the charge meter, the mental load can be quite a lot, so I aimed to minimise that.

There's also an overlay by Baf and Olifante, which was recently completed. It's been a massive help so far!

I'm also looking forward to playing more of #Varth , #Progear and #Gunsmoke . The others... not so much.

Going to try to focus on only a few games this time, instead of spreading my attention everywhere like what I did in the past tourneys. I want to place high on some of these leaderboards, even if it's for only a couple of games.

Guess I'll make this my La Calice Cup 7 thread.

Was busy today, so all I did was practice stage 1 of #GreatMahouDaisakusen some more and routed in the Pinwheel. Hope I get more time tomorrow to route out stage 2.

Also did a quick credit of #TimeTunnel . Improved my score by 20k by doing a bit of milking. But this game annoys me so I won't push it too hard.

One last thing, the overlay I linked yesterday got DMCA'ed. What the heck? Who is even paying attention to MAME overlays of an old arcade game?

I just hope me linking it wasn't the cause of the DMCA ​

After saying I won't push #TimeTunnel too hard, I ended up in 2nd place  

I beat loop 1 without dying, loop 2 with 1 death, and got utterly destroyed in the first stage of loop 3. Those aliens and cows are crazy fast in loop 3!

As for #GreatMahouDaisakusen , I think I'm gonna have to reroute stage 1. I've been focused on just clearing the food and shoe sets, but I should also be grabbing other stuff to make life easier in the later stages.

Also, this happened to me while playing #TimeTunnel , after respawning. The colours are one thing, but the fuel meter at the top also disappeared. Since I wasn't playing with audio, I had no idea when my fuel was running low ​

This fixed itself after respawning again. Weird.

Finally got a run past stage 2 in #GreatMahouDaisakusen , and managed to get through stage 3 blind as well. Got a score of 3 million, which got me into the top 10.

This game's already pretty hard without scoring (as long as you don't cheese it with Birthday). But when you're scoring, even stage 2 becomes a real struggle.

Part of it is also because this game a UI disaster. The inventory list issue is mitigated with the use of the MAME overlay, but there's nothing to deal with the charge level being in the corner.

You have to take your eyes away from the action just to check it, so you either get hit or overcharge. Or have chameleon eyes.

Played some #Varth today. I practiced a little up to stage 10, the proceeded to get a run all the way to stage 25

Got the Varth clear last night with a score of 6 million  

Not much practice went into it. Most stages were only played 2-3 times. After all, you can spam bombs so it's relatively easy. Especially when we're playing the world version, which doesn't have checkpoints.

Despite this, the sheer length of the game still makes it pretty tense in the second half. Varth also has a nice soundtrack and environmental design, as well as beefy explosions, so it's quite fun to play.

The next week is midterms week, so I'll work a bit on Gokujou Parodius and Ghox, since these are a couple of games that I'm not that keen on playing much.

The week after next will be recess week, so I'll have more time to play the more interesting games like Progear and Gunsmoke.

Calice 7 is coming to an end in less than 12 hours. Had a lot of fun with the games the whole month, and I only wished I had more time to play.

I only really got to play Great Mahou Daisakusen seriously, while for the rest, I only played a few credits to get a 30+ place score.

Anyway, my thoughts on all 10 games are in this Pastebin.

Gonna try to sneak in a few more runs of GMD in the morning and hopefully clutch out a PB.
