A big muff type of fuzz would be a necessity, IMO. Keep the gain cranked and tone around 9 oclock.
A graphic EQ after to add even more lows and soften the high end wouldnt be a bad idea, either. IIRC, Josh Homme used a parametric EQ to boost the low mids, so if theres a pedal plugin for that, worth a shot as well.
If you have a variety of amps to choose from, something like a model of an Ampeg VT or V4 would be a good bet. Orange, Sunn, and Laney would work well, too.
It depends on your tastes but on my strat I like a Twin Reverb or a Princeton. Then experiment with distortion. For example, I like the strat on position 1 (neck) or 2 (neck + middle) with volume at around 5 and tone at 8 and an HM-2 pulled way back. Levels 6, Distortion 1 or 2, L pulled back and H around middle. Grungy as fuck.
Everyone dismisses the HM-2 as the “Swedish Death Metal Chainsaw”, but it’s actually a very versatile distortion. It was my first pedal back in 87-88?
