As noted in my bio, I post long threads from this account and there are many ways to get my essays if my Mastodon style doesn't suit - RSS, newsletter, Medium, Tumblr, a blog, etc. I recommend unfollowing me here and subscribing to one of those if you prefer. Links at pluralistic.net.

So You’ve Decided to Unfollow Me – Pluralistic: Daily links from Cory Doctorow

@pluralistic transfering you to Feedly/ liferea.
@quoidian Excellent plan!
@pluralistic
But the downsize of unfollowing you is the loss of the posts replying and commenting on yout posts. Is what I want to instead: follow your account but mute it?
Assuming you still populate your rss, that is.
@pluralistic Great article Cory!
Long time follower and reader here :)
@pluralistic I always say, if you come across a thread from @pluralistic, read it, it'll be interesting. OTOH if you don't want to read it (just then) it's the perfect use-case for the temporary mute. Just mute Cory for 5 or 30 mins, clutter gone.
@pluralistic Friendica or Firefish hove no character limits BTW, and so people will just see it asa collapsed post until they click see more.
@pluralistic Sorry it seems you've been criticized for not being what someone else imagined! At some point, there was an explainer on setting up a filter to exclude pages 2-n of the longthreads from "home" ... this is the perfect balance for me, as I can still click thru to read but don't have the epic scroll.
@marvelty @pluralistic I would love that, actually. Any idea where I can find that explainer?
@libris @pluralistic I have lost the original, sadly, but it's not hard! I found using the Web interface over the app was easier, then settings --> filters, and the setup below. As long as the formatting stays consistent, this works a treat :)
(Edit to clarify: filters may be under "account settings" vs preferences, depending where you are coming from)
@marvelty @pluralistic How can I do that as a reader? I thought the author switches the 2nd post onwards to 'unlisted' to get there 🤔
@rriemann @pluralistic
It's a content filter basically that works since the formatting is consistent in the lead post vs following ones. I put a very short version here: https://mastodon.online/@marvelty/111206000214322725
