Welp. If I didn't get COVID today after four hours in different spots within the most crowded medical facility I've seen in my entire LIFE (and CO2 levels ranging from "eh" to "eek"), then @Barryhunt008 deserves a goddamn medal.
@Barryhunt008
Update: that’s it—ALL the medals for @Barryhunt008!
@IPEdmonton @Barryhunt008 where'd you get that last fancy test thing?
@Kellyshenanigans ordered it online. Don’t remember from where—maybe rapidtestandtrace.ca? I’m surprised you’re not familiar with it! They’re expensive but better for peace of mind because they’re near-PCR quality.
@IPEdmonton we don't do a ton of testing, and when we do, it's with the free ones (and sometimes then even feels like why bother, just assume it's COVID and contain because accuracy sucks, and don't want to be sick with anything). We've been focusing on prevention, and only test when someone gets symptoms, which is rare. Like we didn't test at all flying back and forth to NS, because no one developed symptoms (had tests with us). I can't get my head around paying $600+ per year on testing.

@Kellyshenanigans we only test when we have symptoms too (which almost never happens). I figured it would be more frequent with kids in school—glad I was mistaken about that!

We do keep a couple of the single-use NAAT tests around for when we want to be extra sure, though. This was the third one we’ve ever used.

@IPEdmonton one of our kids is a diligent masker, no reminders required, sometimes they remind us. The other... well, they try. They wear their mask in the morning, but often forget in the afternoon after lunch. They have HEPAs in the classrooms, and some teachers open the windows. The less diligent masker gets sick more often, also because they're younger and have not completely learned personal space and such. They got sick with something contageous once in September.
