Light pollution is worsening globally, erasing many #stars from the night #sky.

While light pollution is devastating for #astronomy and #stargazing alike (and many, many animals), it is also wiping out our cultural heritage that gave rise to mathematics and natural sciences, and ultimately, our technological civilization: the night sky.

The stars that guided our ancestors are out of view for the majority of humanity.

How well do you see the stars?

The loss of dark skies is so painful, astronomers coined a new term for it

'Noctalgia' is a feature of the modern age.

@mustapipa

I’m in a good dark sky site & I have an excellent horizon of 360ΒΊ. I love being able to see the stars, I think I see them quite well. When the Milky Way sets, you can see how much darker is becomes.

@mustapipa I am fortunate where I live it's a 3. I was not surprised when I passed by these bright distracting billboards that at night were way too bright.

One of the reasons I very much hate these eyesores. They have no reason to be as bright as they are.
Light pollution is pollution and contributes to poor health and should be treated with scrutiny all the same.
