We had a long outage at sciences.social today. Our mastodon hosting provider masto.host is great, but the large infrastructure provider, OVH, that physically runs masto.host’s machines tried to replace a failing disk on the drive array for our database server and messed that up royally. Masto.host fixed the problem OVH created. I’m gonna look at putting up info to communicate sciences.social status on a static platform so at least you have an easier way to check.
Apologies for the downtime.
@markigra Thank you for your work on this server. A static platform to notify users of similar outages in the future is a great idea.
@markigra Thanks for the info, and yes a way to see the status of the instance would be great! (Please not on Twitter or BS, but maybe it's possibleon a blog or a linktree?)
From what I remember, there was also a (shorter) outage on October 4th, around 10-11am CET, maybe it was related?
