In an ugly world, vaccines are a beautiful gift worth honouring

According to the WHO, they have saved more lives than any other medical invention

The Economist
@erictopol vaccines are true marvel. Only vaccine we lack as society nowadays is vaccine against idiocy.
@erictopol As someone who have had malaria I'm fucking ecstatic that there now is two vaccines. That shit is no joke, I do not know what to say to "anti vaxers" how can you not see the link between nobody getting polio and the vaccine.
@erictopol
You should read "Turtles All The Way Down" Zoey O'Toole. The argument isn't that vaccines aren't safe. It's that the method they use to test them makes them look like they're safer than they actually are. Vaccines can be dangerous and cause severe injury. They should be clearly and publicly tested and the negatives should be clearly defined. That's the only way anyone can make an informed choice.

@jgoldaz @erictopol "Success in eradicating polio will mean that no more children will have to experience the devastating effects of the disease.."

We have a structure wheres people who have the capability to absorb complex medical knowledge perform unbelievable feats. Cataract surgery restores sight to the blind. Science works I think you should try a broader range of books.

@homestudiodad @erictopol Thanks for the debunk of Turtles. I'm working through it but there's a lot there. I don't agree with all of it but it has changed my perspective. I'll post more when I get through it all.
@erictopol if they saved more lives, it's because there are more people. Many science things have saved many lives.

@geneshackman @erictopol
"if they saved more lives, it's because there are more people."

I no not understand that sentence, could you explain

@erictopol oooh, very well said. A good analogy.
