@arstechnica mildly ironic considering the years it ran at a loss to cannibalize it’s competitors.

@taco @arstechnica actually, yes. I had a friend who worked at Amazon when they did the Amazon Prime at a loss. It was company wide known they were trying to push competition out and had enough money to do this until they reigned supreme. If I remember correctly they also kind of pushed USPS to deliver for super low prices on their 2 day shipping and then started their own fleet taking away the business they got delivering Amazon packages.

@NerdRage42 @arstechnica basically they used the profits from AWS and their other ventures to subsidize operating Amazon at a loss, targeting one niche sector after another.

In the diapers dot com scenario they simply sold diapers at a loss until that site went broke and then bought them.
