Our car has been a good and useful car for about 15 years now, but is showing its age (and starting to need the associated expensive maintenance). So we're doing research on replacing it. And... it looks like gigantic SUVs are still a thing (blech), but then it seems things that I would have called hatchbacks or perhaps station wagons ("estate cars" for our British friends) are now *also* called SUVs for weird marketing reasons? So it's not possible to just scroll past the "SUV" category, which is annoying.

Anyway, our priorities are:

* Hybrid (the place we live does not have charging facilities for an EV, and we don't want to have to pay you-know-who for access to chargers)
* Not too big -- it's just the two of us, no kids or pets
* Can be bought with a roof rack suitable for two kayaks (55lb. apiece) or have an aftermarket one installed which will bear that load.

Anyone have suggestions?

@ubernostrum We’ve been pretty happy with the RAV4 Hybrid, which seems to functionally be a Prius with a larger body. Never tried putting that much weight on the roof rack, but the specs say 2019 model year and later can handle 176lbs. If you are in a hotter climate, you definitely want 2019 and later to get rear AC vents.
