Hell, even from a purely selfish point of view, if you’re shitty to others, it can have a way of catching up to you. You might think you’re getting away with shit but maybe your victims just don’t think you’re worth confronting and accept the loss but also adjust their strategy for dealing with you to “no closer than arm’s length and be open with others about how they really feel”.
