⚠ Meta will apparently to move to a "Pay for your Rights" model in the European Union!

EU users would then have to pay $ 168 a year if they don't want to give up their fundamental right to privacy on Facebook and Instagram. This move is inacceptable.

Meta (Facebook / Instagram) to move to a "Pay for your Rights" approach

In order to bypass the GDPR, Meta apparently plans to move to a "Pay for your Rights" approach

What boggles my mind is that there are people posting here
that this move is ok.
@zedaardv @noybeu ok, I'll bite, why wouldn't it be? Meta is a private company; if you don't want to pay for their services (either via data tracking consent, OR paying cash in lieu of), you don't have to use their service. There is no law or 11th commandment of "thou shalt use Facebook."

That the EU gets the option to pay beats the situation in the US which is "use it with tracking or don't use it at all."
