As fascists and fascism have proliferated and started creeping into the mainstream, there has come this strange idea that hating fascists is some kind of performative virtue signaling and not a logical response to genocidal sociopaths who want to torture and kill many of us.

I don't wanna punch fascists because I think it's cute. I want them dead. Because the only good fascist is a dead fascist. It's literally us or them.

@gwynnion I think this time they don't want to kill us, but they sure as he'll want to make us wish they wanted to kill us
@gavinisdie @gwynnion
I'm gonna guess you're not a poor pregnant woman living in a red state. Because, truly, people are already dying. Women. Pregnant women who don't want to be pregnant.Same deal for a Black person walking or driving, or a person exercising their first Amendment rights by protesting. I'm gonna invite you to really listen to the folks a little closer to the front lines: They definitely want to kill us. And the categories will keep expanding.
@gavinisdie
They definitely want to kill more than just a few of us, which imo means we _all_ should be responding appropriately, as a threat to some of us is a threat to all of us
@gwynnion
@gwynnion right with you, sister!
@gwynnion this is the only correct position!

@gwynnion

The truly awful people among us can't conceive of anyone not being as awful as they are, so they assume everyone else must be faking it. Within that thought process, any example of someone "doing good" must be for some secretly selfish benefit, such as increasing one's own social status with displays of "fake virtue".

@tstrike78 @gwynnion I like referring to this as "vice signaling", because the nazis and their sympathizers can't help but tell us they have no morals nor redeeming features.

@ArdentSlacker @gwynnion

People who can't concieve of doing good things or being selfless without some outside motivator terrify me. Whether that's fear of punishment or some nebulous reward in the afterlife, it still boils down to an overwhelmingly selfish worldview.

@gwynnion The bad thing is that fascists are like termites. You don't see their damage until it's too late. It's better if they are eliminated early. (I mean getting rid off them by legal means like your vote. NOT by illegal means).
@Asariel999 @gwynnion People have been sounding the alarms even before 2016. The damage was always very visible.

@Asariel999 @gwynnion

What do you do when they make it illegal to be rid of them? And principled antifascism itself is prohibited?

Don't bind yourself to legality; that fetish is good for nothing, least of all being rid of fascists.

@gwynnion
Publicly and unequivocally hating fascists should be the default state of being. It's not considered performative to brush your teeth and neither should telling Nazis to fuck off.

@gwynnion I already hear people saying "but killing is wrong" and yeah, it is. Any fascists are welcome to stop being fascists if they wanna live. It's a choice. They actively choosing to continue to try and murder everyone on their lists. If they decide they are gonna stop being crazy murderers then we can talk. It's gonna take a lot of convincing to show me they really mean it.

But fascism must be stopped by all means.

@gwynnion
How can anybody NOT hate their hateful bigotry?!

@gwynnion

yeah - if anyone starts arguing about tolerance and civility. Stop the conversation and ask them what the Nazi stands for.

@gwynnion This times a trillion!

@gwynnion

“Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice. Moderation in pursuit of justice is no virtue.”
Barry Goldwater

@gwynnion yes, fascists are bad, but… the problem of course is who gets to decide who is a fascist, because if everyone who disagrees with you is a fascist, then you get to kill everyone who disagrees with you, which … makes you a fascist.
